We buy all precious metals and diamonds, along with coins, fine timepieces, and sterling silver which includes jewelry, flatware, and tableware.
Is it weirdly shaped, tarnished, crushed, broken, or just basically ugly? As long as it is made of karat gold, sterling silver, or platinum, we’ll make an offer on it.
If you aren’t sure what you have, bring it in, and we can help you sort through everything so that you can make an informed decision about what to sell. You are never pressured to do so.
Make sure everything is secured and bring it into the shop. We will help you determine what is worth selling.
How much your gold is worth largely depends on its purity or karat. Different karats have different values. For instance, 10-karat gold may be stamped 417. This means 41.7% pure. 14 karat is stamped 585, which means 58.5% pure. This gives us a starting point.
If we need to ascertain more information, we do what’s called a scratch test. We will rub a section of your gold on a special stone, apply acid to that mark, and see how it holds up over different strengths to determine karat. If necessary and with your permission only, we may make a small file mark on an inconspicuous area of your jewelry and apply the acid directly to it. If you have 14k gold and we apply 14k acid to it, it will not change the surface of the metal in any way. The only time we see a reaction is if it is a lower karat than marked or if it’s plated. How the acid and metals react gives us the answer to what karat your jewelry may or may not be. We can then give you a more accurate evaluation.
Our evaluations are highly accurate based on our experience working with all metals and using acids as a checks and balance system. Many electroplated pieces can be deceiving to the naked eye, especially if you’re not used to seeing the differences. That’s why we offer to sort your jewelry in front of you. If a piece is plated, it does not have gold value, as that plating is very thin and cannot be separated from the base metal underneath. In the same vein, we have plucked many valuable pieces from the midst of what people thought was “junk” jewelry.
If you sell us gold with stones in it, we look at each piece of jewelry individually. Depending on the color, clarity, and worth, some stones have value, and some do not. While we are assessing the value of your gold, we can also tell what the stone is worth. If you are selling a piece of jewelry with a stone that you want to hold on to (e.g., you are selling the gold in a ring but want to hold on to the diamond), we will safely remove it for you. We do not alter our prices on the metal if you remove the stone; however, many pieces with smaller diamonds will have a higher dollar amount put on the metal. Ultimately, if you sell us your jewelry, we want you to be happy with your decision and fully informed about how we arrived at our offer.
The price of gold is based on pure .999 gold. If you have 24k (pure) gold, you will get very close to that amount as per the item’s weight. If your gold is a lower karat, it will have a lower value than the pure price per ounce. Also, the price of gold varies on a daily and hourly basis. We consult the price of gold daily to make you the best and most competitive offer at that time. Remember, you always have the right to say no thank you. Our offer for gold is always very competitive. We offer you a price based on fair market value, regardless of whether you do more business at our counter or take the money and run. Our success rate speaks for itself, and many people who get a quote from us return to sell, even after shopping with our competitors.
